1. Flexible grids
Use Grid or Flexbox to let content wrap naturally. Set a practical minimum card width and test the layout between breakpoints, not just at two preset sizes. Keep the reading order consistent when columns collapse.
02
2. Content-driven breakpoints
Add a breakpoint when a navigation label, heading or group of controls no longer fits. A tablet can have a narrow browser window, so device names are less useful than the space the component actually needs.
03
3. Responsive images
Use srcset or an image component with accurate sizes so the browser can select the right file. Supply width and height or an aspect ratio to avoid layout shifts. Load below-the-fold images lazily, but give an important hero image an appropriate loading priority.
04
4. Fluid typography
A bounded fluid size, such as CSS clamp, can keep a heading expressive without making it dominate a small screen. Check long titles and text at increased browser zoom. Body copy should remain readable without horizontal scrolling.
06
6. Usable forms
Associate every label with its field, use suitable input types and autocomplete, and explain errors next to the affected control. Ask only for information needed to answer the enquiry. Preserve the visitor’s message if delivery fails.
07
7. Test real content and outcomes
Use the actual portfolio images, contact information and service names during testing. Check a successful submission and a failure state using a controlled test backend. Responsive design succeeds when customers can finish their task, not just when the columns fit.
